Home Safety While We Are Away

There are times when we need to go out-of-town for business or company trips. Other times, the whole family wants to go on a vacation and there could be no one to guard the house. In times like this, we can always ask any of our very close and trusted relatives to stay in our house for a couple of days while we are away. We can always shoulder their daily food expenses and we can give them extra money for guarding our house.
Few weeks before the vacation, it is necessary to check the locks to our doors and other parts of the house so we could make sure that it would not be easy for thieves and burglars to enter. Glass windows need to have secured locks and if possible, it would be safer to install a steel grill in the middle parts of the glass window so in case the glass will be broken, it would not be easy for the thieves to pass through.
It is necessary to have our alarm system checked if its in good condition before our scheduled departure. For emergency purposes, it would greatly help our caretaker and would distract any thief that would want to enter. Thieves usually panic and do their best to escape instead. Finally, a defective alarm should be checked immediately and replaced as we don't know when thieves would plan to come.
When going out, it is best to have the house lights on so thieves would think that there is someone in the house. Minimize the ring tone of your telephone as a continuously ringing phone would alert thieves that no one is around.
