News - Renovators Dump Spa Baths
September 16th 2008 05:26
Australian renovators are dumping the trend to include spa baths in bathrooms with only 13 per cent requesting their installation in a new survey by Archicentre of architects across Australia.
Archicentre polled its membership of over 800 architects on what steps their clients are taking to improve their homes and these trends form the essence of Trends in Contemporary Home Renovation 2008.
David Hallett, General Manager of Archicentre said the demise of the bathroom spa reflects the increasing pressure of water and energy conservation.
"Around the country, the aesthetic trend of the kitchen has carried over to the bathroom where stonework or large tiles with even larger shower tiles flourish around neutral and soft colour themes.
"Frameless glass shower (double size if feasible) and freestanding period-style baths are also en vogue.
"The traditional form of the toilet is slowly disappearing with over one out of three Archicentre clients requesting a concealed cistern.
"Size-wise bathrooms are diminishing with separate powder rooms being requested by 50 per cent of renovators.
"The inclusion of double sized showers is 40 per cent and basins 54.8 per cent.
"Renovators are increasingly looking at providing views natural views from their bathrooms with 28 per cent of the designs surveyed having views to internal courtyards.
"With a touch of luxury one out of three renovators wanted heated floors with heated towel rails as pretty standard."
